Ginseng Seeks English Teachers
Online Position
Please note: we have received far more applications for this position than anticipated. Though we will continue accepting new applications, we have several months' backlog before we will be able to make new hires.
Summary:
Ginseng is seeking energetic, knowledgeable, organized ESL teachers to deliver English classes online.
Ginseng is a web-based language school that aims to change the field radically. We know it’s not any one methodology or curriculum that best predicts students’ success with language acquisition. Rather, having a passionate, knowledgeable teacher is the single strongest predictor of student success (Sanders 1998).
This is not one-on-one tutoring via Skype; it is an actual class taught to groups of students from around the world based on a solid curriculum. Not every ESL teacher is right for this position. We need teachers who are able to design and deliver fast-paced, engaging lessons while using a technology that may require a bit of a learning curve.
his position begins in late September.
Responsibilities:
Plan and teach lessons aligned with Ginseng’s curriculum and standards
Record brief educational/promotional videos advertising your courses
Help to promote classes on social media
Record and share data for feedback emails to students
Qualifications:
Be the best. Certificates and master’s degrees are fantastic; we look favorably upon them. We can't imagine how you could do this job well without experience teaching English to adults. But when it comes down to it, if you show us that you're a fantastic teacher, we want you on our team.
Some flexibility in availability is required.
Ginseng believes in fair hiring practices and the value of a diverse staff. We want the best teachers out there, regardless of gender, race, religion, orientation, and native language.
Compensation:
We value our teachers and want to invest in them for the long term. We generally pay about double what competing companies pay.
To Apply:
In lieu of a typed application or resume, please send a 5-minute video application with the following:
about 30 to 60 seconds introducing yourself
about a minute describing your teaching experience
another minute describing what you can bring to language teaching via video
two to three minutes teaching a language point that you think is challenging to teach
We’re not looking for anything fancy in terms of video work (in fact, it’s best if the whole thing is done in one take without edits), and we know this won't be perfect. Don't worry about perfection. What we hope to see is what it will be like for a student to be “in class” with you via video. We're looking for energy, organization, expertise, and clarity.
Thanks for entertaining our quirky request, and we look forward to hearing from you!
