How and why we do what we do

We truly want to have the best language school available. We don't want to offer the most teachers or the cheapest rate. What we want is to be the best. Below, we discuss some of the methods and policies that set us apart, complete with links to research supporting those decisions

The best English teachers

The single most important factor affecting student achievement is teachers
— Sanders and Rivers 1996

Research shows that the very best way to make your students succeed is to have the best teachers (Sanders 1998). We carefully screen our teachers, looking for everything from their degrees and qualifications to their enthusiasm and presentation style. It has been demonstrated that teachers who are paid more are more effective (Walker 2012). That's why our classes cost a little more. We want to be the best, not the cheapest.

There are schools out there that advertise hiring "only native speakers". This is not only discriminatory, it's bad for language education. Research shows that native speakers and non-native speakers each bring different strengths to teaching. We are committed to hiring the best teachers available for you.

Language teachers should be hired solely on the basis of their professional virtues.”
— Medgyes 2001
